S’PORE DOCTOR WAIVES SURGERY COSTS FOR RESPECTED INDON CORRUPTION FIGHTER INJURED BY ACID ATTACK

Prominent Indonesian corruption investigator Novel Baswedan who is seeking medical treatment in Singapore after enduring an acid attack to his face in Indonesia had his surgery costs waived by the Singapore doctor, Dr Tan after he learnt that his patient was a corruption investigator injured during the course of duty.

This was revealed by Laode Muhammad Syarif, Vice-Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to the media. Laose said that Dr Tan did it out of compassion even though the Indonesian Government will bear the full costs of Mr Baswedan’s treatment. Despite that, the doctor insisted on waiving the medical costs as Mr Novel was fighting for a cause.

Novel Baswedan was leading corruption investigations into a huge $170 million case that implicated numerous senior politicians and the acid attack on him was suspected to be related to his investigations. He was walking home from mosque when attackers on a motorbike splashed acid on his face resulting in blurred vision in his left eye.
