SERMON WHISTLEBLOWER & NUS PROF GIVEN STERN WARNINGS AFTER APOLOGY & PLEDGE TO NOT REOFFEND

From updates given by the Ministry of Home Affairs, NUS Professor Syed Muhammad Khairudin Aljunied and whistleblower Terence Kenneth John Nunis were both given stern warnings for their conduct after they apologised and pledged to not repeat their offences.

Associate Professor Khairudin Aljunied, a lecturer at NUS’s Department of Malay Studies posted his support for Imam Nalla’s supplication on Facebook on 2 occasions and was suspended by NUS on 8th March 2017. Prof Khairudin’s comments were found to be contrary to the law and constituted an offence under the penal code.

On the other hand, whistleblower Terence Nunis, the man who publicized the video of Imam Nalla’s sermon on social media was assessed to have breached the law and promised not to repeat his offence.
