Russian authorities say that at least 10 people were killed and 50 injured after an explosion ripped through a metro train carriage in the St.Petersburg metro. Interfax news agency reported that the explosion was caused by a bomb filled with shrapnel.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was considering all causes for the explosion, including the possibility of terrorism.
Eyewitness videos showed victims lying bleeding on the platform while a huge hole was blasted in the side of a train carriage. Metal wreckage was strewn across the platform. Trapped passengers were seen hammering on the windows of closed carriages desperately trying to escape.
