ZIKA RETURNS TO SINGAPORE, CLUSTER DETECTED IN HOUGANG (SIMON PLACE)

Singapore’s Ministry of Health has announced two locally transmitted Zika cases at Simon Place which is located near Kovan in Hougang. Both infected were from the same household and MOH declined to reveal further details of the two.

This is the first Zika cluster to be reported in Singapore since the new year. In 2017 alone, there has been 6 isolated cases and a cluster is considered to be formed when at least 2 cases occur within 14 days and within 150 metres of one another.

Hougang residents are urged to detect and destroy potential mosquito breedings spots. Aljunied GRC MP Ms Sylvia Lim thanked NEA for its efforts and shared she will be visiting the affected residents today.
