LAW SOCIETY TAKES ON AMERICAN JUDGE IN AMOS YEE CASE

Dear A.S.S. Editor

And so it has begun. The Singapore authorities, this time via the Law Society of Singapore, has come out and spoken out against the findings about Singapore’s criminal justice system by US judge Samuel Cole, in allowing asylum for Mr Amos Yee in the United States .

The Law Society indicated that the judge’s opinion in the judgment appears to gloss over the critical fact that Mr Yee was lawfully prosecuted in a court of law. They also indicated that allowing immunity for hate speech only encourages the undermining of values in a functional democracy.

The Law Society are defending Singapore’s law and justice system, as they should, but the USA and their judges will probably not care one bit. The Americans have form when it comes to them not valuing any other country’s inputs. And as for Amos Yee, he has chosen to to find a new life far away from his country of birth. May he find that happiness there.
