An unscrupulous loan shark hired a Thai national and paid for all his expenses in Singapore… all to get him to terrorize a debtor’s children and family.
The 33 year-old Samroeng Sompop, who arrived in Singapore on an all expenses trip here on 13 January last year, was driven to a Modern Montessori International pre-school by 56-year-old Singaporean Lee Tiow Kiong, who acted as his accomplice.
There, he splashed red paint on the door, gate, walls and windows of a pre-school where the debtor’s children used to attend. He also scattered notes on the floor, written on them were “O$P$” (short hand for owe money pay money). He later took a taxi to Johor Bahru and went back to Thailand. He was arrested after he tried to enter Singapore again last month.
Sompop was promised 20,000 baht (about S$800) in return for carrying out the act of harassment at the pre-school.
He was sentenced to 15 months jail and 3 strokes of the cane by the district court.
