According to a report by The Independent Singapore, fake doctor Shyam Acharya, who is wanted by the Australia authorities for working fraudulently in 4 New South Wales hospitals for more than 10 years, has allegedly fled to Singapore and may be working here.
Acharya had taken on the identity of a Dr Sarang Chitale. The real Dr Chitale lives and works in the United Kingdom in a branch of the British National Health Service.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation spoke to Acharya’s neighbors and were informed that the doctor may be in Singapore based on a SMS Acharya sent to his neighbor in January.
“I have been doing a lot of back and forth trips to Singapore. I will be back on 31st March.”
The neighbor told the news site that he would often travel to Singapore to work in an emergency department as a doctor.
Neighbors in Australia described the suspect as a nice man and a good neighbor who kept to himself. They did not suspect he was a fake doctor because he seemed to know what he was doing when he recommended treatment for one of the neighbor’s sick children.
