SG MAN LOSES JOB AFTER MINDEF REFUSES TO DEFER RESERVIST

A netizen has lost his job after failing to get the Ministry of Defence to defer his reservist obligations.

According to the netizen, he had secured a job offer in Manila, Philippines, and immediately applied for NS duty deferment as he would be overseas for 2 years.

Despite being told to apply for an exit permit, which would exempt him from NS duties until his return in 2019, the netizen found he could not proceed to defer his duties because he had pre-existing NS duties due from him.

He has since lost his job as the company has retracted his employment and employer. He urged the government to not let red tape deny any more Singaporans of good working opportunies in this tough job market.
