A 66 year old man sexually abused 8 boys between 2011 and 2013 while entrusted with looking after them at a student care center. He was convicted of 11 counts of molesting 8 primary school boys and 1 count of sexually penetrating one of them, then aged 10, during that 2 year period.
He would usually commit his crimes on the pretext of helping them with their school work, but instead molested them by touching them inappropriately. He would also give them gifts and treat them preferentially. He treated 3 of the boys particularly well.
One of the boys had even been made to perform oral sex on him in a school toilet in August 2013.
The boy involved in the oral sex charges said that he felt disgusted and told the man that he “don’t want to do already”, but the man warned him that he would then “do it on others” and “then I won’t treat you so good.”
The man had denied all the charges of sexual abuse and grooming the boys in court. However, the judge found the weight of the combined testimonies of the 8 boys more credible. She also slammed the man’s attempt to cover his tracks when he tried to contact some of the boys after he was suspended on 13 September 2013.
The man was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
The maximum punishment for each charge of sexual penetration of a minor is 20 years in jail, a fine or caning, and for molesting a person under 14 years old, five years in jail, a fine, caning or any combination of punishment.
