HOLLAND V STANCHART ROBBER STILL DETAINED IN THAILAND, NOW FACES CUSTOMS OFFENCE

Alleged bank robber David James Roach who robbed a Stanchart branch in Holland Village, Singapore is still being held by Thai authorities and is now investigated for failing to declare more than US$20,000 when he entered the country.

This comes 7 months after he was arrested and detained in Thailand for robbing the singapore bank of more than $30,000 on 7 July 2016. Roach handed his robbery demands on a note and fled to Bangkok immediately after his act. By the time Singapore police tracked down his identity, he had fled the republic and made his way to a backpacker hostel in Bangkok with his ill-gotten gains. He was arrested with part of the money and notepad detailing his escape plans.

Thai authorities have initially rejected Singapore’s request to extradite Roach back to Singapore to face trial but now said they remained in touch with Singapore authorities over the issue when contacted by Singapore media.
