S’POREANS SHDN’T JUST SPEAK UP AGAINST INJUSTICE IN USA, BUT IN SG TOO

The Straits Times has come out strong against Donald Trump’s #MuslimBan, calling it a “grave travesty of reason and values”: [http://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/st-editorial/a-grave-travesty-of-reason-and-values]

The editorial warns of the dangers of “creating a class of religions and cultures to be trusted and therefore to be preferred over those that cannot.” (See first screencap.)

This is, of course, true. But I also invite everyone to take a look at this Quora thread, in which Singaporeans defend discriminatory practices against Malay-Muslims in the armed forces: https://www.quora.com/Why-are-there-no-Muslims-in-some-sect… (See second screencap.)

As we speak out against injustice that we see elsewhere in the world, we must not forget to take a good hard look at ourselves. It’s completely understandable to want to respond and push back against the travesty that we see in the US, but there are struggles right here in Singapore that need our attention and efforts, too.
