Following in the steps of the stepson of Punggol, Dr Koh Poh Koon, who was ridiculed on social media after he uploaded a photo of himself helping an elderly woman carry 32KG of recyclable materials, Minister for Social and Family Development appears to have followed in Dr Koh’s footsteps.

The minister was shown on a Straits Times uploaded video distributing food to rental unit residents living Marine Parade GRC. One video even showed Mr Tan getting rid of a dirty, bed bug infested mattress.

The accompanying media report by the Straits Times reported that 2,400 households received basic food packs comprising Milo, biscuits, rice and canned food as part of the annual One Community Day which started in 2011.

The clean up activity was part of an event that saw 52 homes occupied by residents with physical challenges cleaned up by volunteers. Volunteers helped to clean the homes, repaint walls and throw unwanted furniture and items, as Mr Tan had done on video.

According to the report, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and MPs Fatima Lateef, Mr Seah Kian Peng and Mr Edwin Tong also joined Mr Tan for the activities.
