The Independent Singapore reported that a message urging Tamils in Singapore to assemble in Sembawang Park for a gathering has gone viral on social media. The gathering is for Tamils to express their displeasure with the Jallikattu ban in India. The organiser of the event is unknown but Tamils living in Singapore are urged to attend the friendly gathering to express their solidarity with Jallikattu.
This flouts Singapore’s assembly laws which only designates Hong Lim Park as the place to hold such protests or gatherings. Even then, it is still illegal as Hong Lim Park is only for Singaporeans and foreigners are disallowed from participating in such events. This gathering at Sembawang park may constitute a breach of Singapore’s Public Order Act.
