Dear A.S.S. Editor
So, the government finally decided that they are going to build 4 new mega child care centres, for kids from 2 months old to 6 years old. The places announced where the mega child care centres are going to be built are at Sengkang, Punggol and Bukit Panjang, areas where there is a high concentration of young families.
While we applaud the move to finally have enough child care places for about 2,700 children, this certainly seems a move that was a long time coming. The mega child care centres should have been around the same time the new towns were planned, instead of waiting for too long before deciding to build one. Currently, residents in these new towns will confirm that getting their kids places at child care centres are difficult. Some may even end up being in the waiting list for as long as one year! The government certainly did not plan this right. New towns were built, BTOs were mushrooming everywhere, but the basic amenities such as a child care was lacking.
Now, they have to build out of necessity. Let’s hope the days of being in the waiting list for one year for your child to be admitted to a child care are over.
