HDB has taken action and banned errant lift company Sigma from participating in HDB tenders after their lifts had a higher than usual breakdown in the past 2 years. It also failed to adhere to lift installations on certain HDB projects. Sigma has manufactured and installed some 3,500 lifts in HDB estates and HDB’s ban is to ensure poor performing contractors focus on their ongoing contract obligations.
HDB investigators found that most of the broken down Sigma lifts were the result of misalignment of lift doors or their sensors resulting in the lifts being more sensitive to knocks and rough usage which led to higher breakdowns during high usage period such as renovation times.
Sigma has since rectified the issues identified and taken steps to ensure these lifts operate smoothly. Their works for all the affected lifts are expected to be done by January this year.
