2 IN 5 S’POREANS SUFFER FROM LACK OF SLEEP

40% or 2 in 5 Singaporeans do not get enough sleep on weekdays according to a study by SingHealth Polyclinics released today.

6 in 10 Chinese had sufficient sleep on weekdays, as compared to 4 in 10 of Malays and Indians who got enough rest on the same days. Sleep times of less than 7 hours was considered insufficient. Chronic lack of sleep could affect the body’s immunity, memory, concentration and daily functioning.

The survey was conducted with 350 adults at 2 polyclinics in Sengkang and Bukit Merah between February to June 2015.

It was found that people who used their laptops to surf the web or play games in their bedrooms were more likely to lack sleep on weekdays. However, such people tend to get more sleep on weekends compared to those who did not use their laptops.
