NS MAN CAUGHT SMUGGLING LIVE AMMO OUT OF CAMP

A National Serviceman who had just finished his National Service, 3SG (NS) Jared Mok Shi Jie, 22, was found outside camp with 10 rounds of ammunition in his bag. Ammunition of this type is typically used by the SAR21 assault rifle.

He was court-martialled by a military court last week and given 16 weeks in detention. He will be serving his sentence at the detention barracks. The SAF does not allow ammunition to be carried out of camp and checks are usually conducted on servicemen’s equipment right after training. It is uncertain how this incident happened because usually ammunition are recovered and accounted for after training.

It is still unknown why 3SG(NS) Jared Mok wanted to steal the ammunition.
