A Caucasian from Britain, Ian Lewis, aged 66, molested 2 underage girls at a tuition centre in Orchard in 2014.
He was sentenced to 2 years in jail. His sentence is 18 months and 6 weeks in jail. He received the extra 6 weeks in jail because he is too old to be caned.
Lewis started work at the tuition centre in 2012. He had arrived in Singapore just 2 years earlier.
The underage victim had attended classes conducted by the ang moh once a week between November 2013 and December 2014.
During this period, the victim was molested by Lewis. The ang moh would occasionally put his hands under the table and play with the 7 year old girl’s genitals.
He also molested another student, a 8 year old girl during this time. The girls felt uncomfortable but remained quiet about it out of fear. Eventually, one of the girls confided in her mother after watching an episode of Crime Watch and her mother proceded to make a police report.
The ang moh’s jail sentence was backdated to October 28, 2016. The court noted that Ian Lewis was in a position of trust and authority and yet he ignored the age difference and engaged in prolonged touching of the girl’s private parts.
For molesting a girl under the age of 14, Ian Lewis could have been jailed up to 5 years in jail, fined and caned.
