According to Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post, famous blogger Amos Yee has sought political asylum in the United States of America (USA). He is currently in the custody of the USA and is seeking help from his US-based legal team which Amos had approached.

Melissa Chen, a Singapore activist based in the US, told the SCMP that Amos arrived in Chicago on 16 Dec with a tourist visa where he told border control that he was seeking asylum.

He is being held at Henry County Jail near Chicago.

Amos Yee has been in the spotlight since he first posted images and insults against deceased former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew in March 2015 and spoke ill of Christians and Muslims. He has been in jail and out and was serving home detention since serving prison time for his charges.
