S’PORE BOY ARRESTED FOR PRETENDING TO BE JOHOR SULTAN’S GRANDSON

An unnamed 15 year-old Singaporean boy was arrested and charged in Malaysia’s juvenile magistrates court in Johor Bahru for passing himself off as the grandchild of the Johor Sultan.

The boy had claimed on his Instagram account that he was the Sultan’s grandchild. He was caught by a shopkeeper who hauled him to the police after questioning him about the truth. The teen had been shopping at Plaza Angsana in Tampoi at 4.30 pm on Aug 6. He was arrested the same day.

The teen was charged under Section 419 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 7 years in jail, a fine or both. He has pleaded not guilty.

The teen is the 3rd of 5 children from a Singapore family living in Johor.
