The National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) said that the appeals against the dismissal of two SMRT staff following the fatal track accident are still pending.
Former assistant engineer Lim Say Heng and driver of the train that hit the trainees, Rahmat Mohd were fired in September. NTWU worked with the two ex-staff to file appeals to SMRT and the Manpower Ministry. The union assisted them in find jobs through the Employment and Employability Institute.
NTWU’s executive secretary Melvin Yong said that the union will continue to support Lim who was charged with causing death by a negligent act. They will ensure that Lim is fairly represented.
Mr Yong added that it was important to allow due process to take its course.
