LTA: WE ARE STEPPING UP ENFORCEMENT AGAINST UNLICENSED PRIVATE HIRE CARS

Are you a fan of private hire car services?

For passenger safety, LTA is stepping up enforcement against unlicensed private hire cars. More frequent checks will be conducted at hotspots, such as Clarke Quay, Resorts World Sentosa and East Coast Seafood Centre, to weed out those plying illegally for fares.

LTA has recently charged one driver under the Road Traffic Act for plying illegally for fares and charging exorbitant fares for rides. He was fined a total of $15,000, disqualified from driving for a year and LTA is seeking to forfeit his car.

We have also issued warnings to 19 others who were involved in using unlicensed private cars or private hire cars to ply illegally for fares.

LTA would like to remind the public that private hire cars are not allowed to be hired through street hails, nor stop or park at taxi stands.

If you spot any such incidents, you can call 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255 582) or write to us at http://www.lta.gov.sg
