Yesterday (20 November 2016) during a thunderstorm, the traffic lights at the junction between Yio Chu Kang and Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 experienced a technical issue and caused a a massive grid lock. Cars and buses were headed in all directions. Chaos ensued and cars were caught in a virtual standstill.
The technical glitch occured from between 12 to 1230pm and was finally fixed at 1.15pm. Vehicles caught in the grid lock did not give way to one another and tailgated each other. Even when there were heavy vehicles like buses, cars did not give way.
It is unclear how this technical glitch happened after a heavy downpour. Hopefully this is a once in 50 years glitch unlike Singapore MRT system which more often than not experiences train faults when heavy downpours occur.
Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan has yet to address this latest transport gaffe.
