POLICE INVESTIGATING WOMAN’S FALSE REPORT ON MAN WHO TRIED TO ABDUCT HER SON

WOMAN INVESTIGATED FOR LODGING FALSE REPORT

The Police are investigating a 35-year-old woman believed to have lodged a false report.

On 13 November 2016, the 35-year-old woman informed the police that while she was shopping at Bukit Panjang Plaza with her 5-year-old son in a pram, an unknown man tried to abduct her son by pushing the pram away. She further informed the Police that the man fled after she managed to intervene.

In the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Division noticed many inconsistencies and established that the woman had provided false information by claiming that someone wanted to take her child away.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
