BANGLA CAUGHT TRYING TO SWIM FROM S’PORE TO MALAYSIA

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) caught a 30 year-old Bangladeshi national who overstayed in Singapore while he tried to swim from Singapore to Malaysia.

2 other Bangladeshi nationals were also arrested in the vicinity for acting as lookouts.

The ICA was informed when passersby informed Checkpoints that a man was seen swimming towards the water pipeline along the Causeway.

If convicted of overstaying or illegal entry, the 30-year-old man faces up to six months’ jail and a minimum of three strokes of the cane. If convicted of helping him leave Singapore illegally, the two other men face between six months and two years’ jail, and a fine of up to S$6,000.
