Dear ASS Editors

My dad was suffering from numbless and we went to polyclinic who referred us to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. We went for appointment and the doctor admitted my dad as they want to go through various scanning and blood tests.

During his 3 day 2 night stay, we never get to speak to the doctor as she always get the nurse to be the messenger. When we requested to speak to doctor, the nurse will tell us doctor work office hour, we will call the doctor, end of the day when we discharged, it was the nurse who called up. There is completely no update from the doctor herself.

Few days passed and my dad was complaining his condition worsen, now we called wanting to speak to the doctor in charge, but she still refuse to call and get the nurse to be the messenger. I am wondering is this the normal procedure for doctor to decline updating the patient families? I need to understand from doctor about my dad’s condition and what is next, operation? There was no medication subscribed to him except some stool softener and tablets for constipation.

My dad was so worry and afraid to go hospital, we are also clueless as at the end of the day what is happening to our father except he was told that his vein is causing numb to his other part of the body.

I do not know how to trust our local government hospital when doctor refuse to speak to patient and families, hiding and being secretive of their identity.
