It has been almost half a year since the Bukit-Batok by-election. During that time, we had a contest of two very contrasting candidates with PAP’s Murali saying that he is his own man even though his walkabout and campaign speeches was backed by several Ministers.
Here are some interesting Parliamentary questions he has asked so far based on Hansard:
On 13th Sep, Murali had asked several questions in Parliament. On of them was to transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan whether lorries with crane booms need to be installed with safety interlock systems and height warning devices. Khaw replied that MND will announce measures in due course.
Earlier on 11th Jul, he had asked Lawrence Wong what was the piece of vacant land opposite Bukit Batok MRT used for and if it was being safeguarded for supporting infrastructure for the growing population in Batok. Wong replied that such details are going to be used for long-term commercial and residential uses.
While not asking questions in which his electorate is seemingly apathetic about, he has engaged into debate on issues such as challenges faced by caregivers of special children while talking about bullying in schools.
By contrast, his electoral candidate Dr. Chee’s party has made use of whatever limited resources they had to set up a mobile book library while they have used their Facebook as a social media platform to raise awareness of issues such as online gambling and the labour market.
How well do you think Dr. Chee will fare in Parliament?
