Here’s a question that may help the typical Singaporean shopper and can help me do my job better.
I work in a retail shop in a prominent mall in Orchard and everytime customers walk in, we always greet them with a smile and ask them “can I help?” or “how can I help you?”. Most of the local shoppers’ response would be “just looking” and some would even feel irritated and give us the stink eye.
We on the other hand would just like to understand why are these shoppers afraid of telling us what they need and why don’t they let us assist them? Won’t shopping be more easier if you’ld let us help them find what they are looking for, than spend minutes “just looking”?
If you’re this kind of customer, please let us do our jobs and let us assist you and make shopping easier for you. Everytime that you walk in a retail shop and the staff asks you “how may I help you?”, just tell them what you are looking for instead of the usual answer “just looking”. Who knows, maybe we can even help you find that thing you were really looking for. Don’t worry, you don’t need to pay for letting us do our jobs, but you’ll just have to pay for the item that we helped you in finding.
