Just got back from Australia, and learnt the sad news of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s passing.
King Bhumibol was the world’s longest-serving monarch, much beloved and revered by his people. He dedicated himself wholly to his country and to improving his people’s lives. His wise leadership and enormous prestige held the country together.
I last met King Bhumibol in 2009, during the ASEAN Summit in Hua Hin, Thailand. He was a most gracious host and took a close interest in ASEAN programmes to promote economic growth and development.
On behalf of Singapore, I offer my deepest condolences to the Royal Family and people of Thailand on their sad loss. May King Bhumibol rest in peace. – LHL
