Stanley Loh, the Singapore Ambassador to China refuted and expressed Singapore’s disappointment at a malicious report by PRC news outlet Global Times alleging the inappropriate behaviour of Singapore diplomats at a recent Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Venezuela. In his letter to the Editor of Global Times, Ambassador Stanley Loh stated that the attributed actions and words to Singapore were false and unfounded.
The 21 September Global Times report alleged that Singapore wanted to include Philippine’s position on the South China Sea dispute in the NAM Final Document at the last minute and used inappropriate remarks during the discussions. Global Times claimed that Singapore acted out of self-interest and upset many countries by dragging discussions late into the night.
The news outlet also claimed that Singapore’s principled agreement of the Hague’s ruling on the South China Sea was disappointing as it was the country coordinator for ASEAN-China relations whom China thinks should do China’s bidding and support China unequivocally.
