DPP ONG FIGHTS TO INCREASE CHC LEADER’S JAIL TIME BY MORE THAN 30 YEARS

During the final day of appeal for the City Harvest Trial, DPP Christopher Ong sought heavier sentences from the trial judge’s original guilty verdict. DPP Ong believed that the trial judge had wrongly emphasized on there being no permanent losses to CHC. He believed that the focus should instead be on how money had been illegally diverted into sham bonds so that auditors would not find out.

In total, DPP Ong sought a total potential increase of 32 year jail term for all six CHC leaders.

Potential Jail Term Increase for CHC Leaders:

Kong Hee : From 8 years to 11 or 12 years

Chew Eng Han : From 6 years to 11 or 12 years

Tan Ye Peng: From 5 years to 11 or 12 years

Serina Wee : From 5 years to 11 or 12 years

John Lam: From 3 years to 11 or 12 years

Sharon Tan: From 2 years to 5 or 6 years

That adds up to a mind-boggling 32 years and 8 months potential increase in jail terms for the six of them.
