Singapore’s most popular online messaging platform Whatsapp is finally updating privacy terms and conditions 4 years after it was bought over by Facebook. Whatsapp will now share your personal account information with Facebook in hope of providing better targeted advertisement for the consumer.
Whatsapp’s FAQ page says that by sharing information with Facebook, it will help both companies coordinate more and allows them to battle spam and abuse more efficiently, on top of the improved experience with better targeted ads.
Luckily for Singaporeans, we can opt out of this service and disallow Whatsapp to share your personal information with Facebook. Here’s how:
Step 1: Open Whatsapp on your phone
Step 2: Go into Settings and tap the mark “Share my account info”
Step 3: Check “Don’t Share” if you like to disable the sharing of information between Whatsapp and Facebook
A pop up will appear warning you that this change is irrevocable, after which this option disappears from the whatsapp settings.
There is no turning back from this option. Think twice before you decide.
