WEIRD UNCLE TRIED TO FORCE ME TO HOLD HIS WATCH, IS IT A SCAM?

I was in the mall alone. Then, one uncle approached me and asked if I’m a Singaporean. He said that his ATM card spoil. He told me he wanted to show me something and wanted me to hold onto his watch.

I felt suspicious so I told him no. He insisted that I hold his watch. I left the area after I felt something suspicious going on since it made no sense.

Is this some sort of a scam tactic? Like you hold his watch then he will ask you to pay up or else he will call police and say you stole his watch? What if I had hold his watch?
