GOVT TAX S’PORE MUM 20% OF PRIZE AFTER SHE SPENDS 10K TO SEND CHILDREN TO COMPETITIONS

Today, you might have seen her on Channel News Asia… How sweet! And that’s my friend’s kid on tv! So proud of her! Holding on her Gold trophy, being interviewed. But you know what? The point is, we need the money for local kids to stay in the game long enough to win.

Tell me… Where is the GOLD?! I just chat with the mom… She has to fork out 10K (one month) to send her children for competition…and 20% of the prize money kena TAX! 10K…I can travel to Europe for 6 months! (Using the cheapskate Couchsurfing method)

See what she told me : “For the past one mth travelling with my children for competition I had spent more than $10k, just the travelling expenses. STTA did not pay a single cent for my children and yet we need to give STTA 20% of the prize money. This is the support we get from them on locals. Can u imagine how much I hv to fork out for their training and expenses for going competitions in a year? How many families hv such deep pockets to support their children with minimum or without govt subsidies? STTA has spent $x this yr bringing in 4-5 China female players as they still believe that getting foreign talents is faster and cheaper than grooming local. Becos of that they do not hv funds to subsidise the junior team. Unless the mgt in STTA change or my children table tennis life will be ending soon as I don’t own a gold mine, I hv three children to support not one.”
