Former NMP Calvin Cheng felt unhappy with a comment the NUS assistant professor made on Leon Perera’s fb page.
Leon Perera, a WP Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) had posted on his facebook page a rebuttal to Minister Tan Chuan-Jin’s claim that his colleague Png Eng Huat had ‘stirred hate and anger’ with his facebook post about the minister and his grassroots leaders cutting queue at the JB checkpoint.
The prof made a tongue-in-cheek comment. “The apparent coordination of all this vitriol and indignation is so interesting to watch. Perhaps this is precisely the sort of panic Khaw Boon Wan feared.”
He also wondered what the Media Literacy Council (of which Calvin Cheng is a member) would think of this fb post saga.
After his comment, he was attacked by Calvin Cheng who derisively called him a “second rate academic who had too much time on his hands”. Calvin Cheng is a well-known PAP supporter who is very sensitive to the slightest criticisms of the PAP regime.
Calvin Cheng also threatened the prof, telling him that unlike Cheng, he has a boss and can get fired. He went on to suggest that MOE and the public should make ‘enquiries’ about this prof. He taunted the prof, telling him ‘Concerned for you of course. Economy is bad and all that you know’.
