A survey conducted by Touch Cyber Wellness revealed that 9 in 10 teenage boys in Singapore have watched or read pornographic materials within the past year. Some were exposed to porn even before they attended Primary school. In contrast, less than 8% of girls surveyed admitted to watching porn either on purpose or by accident.
The survey noted that the main avenue of accessing pornography is through smartphones, 88% of boys and 73% of girls saw it on their smartphones or tablets. This was a 6 to 8% increase from a similar survey conducted in 2014.
Experts say pornographic content can affect a child’s studies, self-esteem and their attitudes towards love and sex. If addicted, it could lead to dysfunction and sexual crimes.
