Dear Mr Lee Hisen Loong,
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
— Mahatma Gandhi
I implore the authorities to investigate why is the AVA still using the services of Francis Lee who has been caught and fined, and is known to use illegal means to entrap animals that cause terrible suffering and in some cases, slow excruciating deaths to these animals?
At the same time, may I ask for a revision of the current law that restricts dogs of a certain size , and only one cat per household, to be allowed for adoption by animal lovers who live in HDB flats. Relaxing this ruling and allowing dogs of a larger size to be adopted, would help reduce the number of stray dogs and cats on our streets.
Many feel strongly that the PAP government is all show and only interested in making a name for itself, of making Singapore a place known internationally for its man-made ‘wonders’, with sparse Interest to ‘waste time’ on compassionate matters that are intangible, and thus cursory efforts at developing a genuinely caring society.
One particular and shameful case that will go down in the annals of history:
That of the hasty and needless culling of thousands of cats that was ordered by Vivian Balakrishnan, who despite being a medical practitioner and being a Minister with the resources to do a proper prior investigation, jumped to the conclusion that feline cats were related to civet cats, and when alerted that there he had erred in his rash judgement, refused to put an end to the culling of our local cats.
