SHELTERED WALKWAY IN BUKIT BATOK COLLAPSES, CRUSHED ONTO PARKED CAR

A sheltered walkway at Blk 116 Bukit Batok West Ave 6 collapsed on Friday morning after a lorry carrying a boom crane crashed into it. Despite being bolted to the ground, the shelter couldn’t withstand the force of the lorry and collapsed onto a parked vehicle. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.

SCDF said that the accident happened at 9.37am. A resident who lived nearby shared that the shelter was built just 6 months ago and it happened in front of the Bukit Batok Zone 1 RC. He was perplexed as to why a newly built shelter that was fixed firmly onto the ground could be toppled so easily. From the damage seen, it was speculated by the resident that the foundation was shallow and not strong enough to withstand the impact.
