DR CHEE: S’POREANS WAITING TO SEE IF POLICE TAKE ACTION AGAINST PRO-PAP WEBSITE

The public is watching how the police handle a pro-PAP website now that a report has been made against it for violating Cooling-off Day regulations during the BB by-election. This is in view of the treatment the police meted out to Teo Soh Lung, Roy Ngerng and The Independent when the ELD filed similar reports.

And speaking of the ELD, the people are already curious as to why it did not lodge complaints about the pro-PAP postings, not to mention posts made by Vivian Balakrishnan and Ting Pei Ling in past elections. Remember that Article 12 of the Constitution says: “All persons are equal before the law and entitled to the equal protection of the law”.

For now the PAP government may ignore the Constitution and act with impunity on political matters. But every time it shows contempt for the rule of law, it drives another nail into the coffin that carries public confidence in government institutions. There is a price to pay for this – it may not be in the immediate future but, assuredly, there will come the day.
