While commenting on the need for local train operators to up their game and citing the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) as an exemplary MRT system worth emulating, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan let slip on what he thinks caused Singapore’s MRT woes.
Khaw said: “We were then an exemplary MRT player and a subject of study. Unfortunately, maybe due to complacency or distracted management attention, we lost our earlier standing. I prefer to use the word, we lost our mojo. Let’s work hard to regain our mojo.”
After many years of urging Singaporeans to be patient with the train system and blaming everyone except themselves for the overworked MRT system, did a PAP Minister finally admit to their mistakes?
Khaw gave SMRT and SBS Transit up till 2020 to achieve TRTC’s reliability record.
