This MRT announcement has been bugging me for years. I strongly believe it is inappropriate/inaccurate because it does not convey the intended message:
“Berhati-hati di ruang platform” – a translation for “Please mind the gap.”
You are asking commuters to be careful ON the platform space (which platform space? Isn’t the platform safe?), not mind the gap while moving in/out of the train cabin from/to the platform. Couldn’t you find a better translation?
Have a go on a more appropriate translation, friends.
Suggestions:
1) Berhati-hati ketika melangkah ke platform
2) Waspada terhadap jurang di sisi platform
3) Mata kau buta ke apa?
