ANG MO KIO LIFT BREAKS DOWN 3 MORE TIMES DESPITE REPAIRS & DECLARED SAFE TO USE

In March 2016, a maid was sent hurtling up 17 storeys after entering the lift at Block 317 Ang Mo Kio Street 31. Since then, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has inspected the lift and completed its rectifications. Engineers concluded that the lift’s brakes were not functioning well and could not hold it in a stationary position.

Despite the rectifications, residents of Block 317 claims that the lift has broken down at least 3 more times and are now afraid of using Lift A. They fear that they would face the same fate of being stuck in the lift for 2 hours and some haven even chosen to take the stairs despite staying at the top floor.

Did BCA do a proper job while inspecting and repairing the lift? Why is Lift A of Block 317 suffering such reliability issues causing fear and distress among the residents, most of whom have lived in the area for their entire lives.
