ELDERLY COUPLE CHEATS VICTIMS OF $650,000 BY SELLING FAKE THAI TALISMANS

An elderly couple Ong Choon Lin (66 yr old) and his wife Ng Kim Yew (60 yr old) face 29 counts of cheating offences committed between 2004 and 2015. They allegedly promised their victims special dedicated talismans which are blessed by a spiritual master in Thailand. They “sold” various forms of talismans some of which were “international”, “business” and “wealth” talismans. In total, they cheated six victims of over $650,000.

One victim parted with a total of $308,688 in exchange for these special blessed talismans. Other victims were cheated of amounts between $10,000 to $37,000. The elderly coupled were charged with one count of cheating on 1 March 2016 and face 28 other charges.

DPP Tay Jingxi called for a deterrant $500,000 bails for each defendant because this cheating case involved serious sums of money.
