Dear ASS Editors,
Many of us have read about the case of Dominique Sarron Lee’s death, how his family’s suit against the SAF was rejected, and how they are now being made to pay the legal fees of the defendants. I spoke to friends and a few complete strangers, and I haven’t yet met one person who doesn’t feel that something is not quite right.
I have thus created a crowdfunding campaign to gather funds for his family. The aim of the campaign is to show through our numbers and actions that we stand with Dominique’s family, that we feel that they should not be made to pay the court costs of the defendants, especially since breach of protocol was established. It is not to show contempt or anger at the ruling, or even to try and force a change in the law in the short term. Let us on our own accord simply stand together with Dominique’s family in this moment when they feel most worn-down, beaten, and defeated, and give what we can to a family who has asked for nothing but justice.
