S’POREANS GAVE UP SEATS ON THE MRT, KAMPUNG SPIRIT STILL ALIVE

I boarded the MRT train at Yishun. The moment I stepped into the train, a kind gentleman immediately gave up his priority seat for me. I thanked him and he acknowledged with a smile.

I boarded the train from Chinatown. The same kind gesture happened.

At Dhoby Ghuat station, an elderly typical Singaporean struggled into the carriage. He was limping and he was obviously eyeing the reserved seat which was occupied by a young lady who suddenly fell asleep. Two seats away, a typical young Singaporean lady stood up and offered the Uncle her seat. The Uncle thanked her profusely and the kind young lady smiled in acknowledgement.

I was impressed by what I had witnessed. And I am convinced our Kampung Spirit is still very much alive!
