SINCE PAP SAYS “NO ONE OWES US A LIVING”, WE DON’T OWE FOREIGNERS A LIVING TOO

I refer to the article “S’pore’s Minister Chan Chun Sing’s first blog post – “No one owes us a living” (Yahoo News, Jan 15).

It states that “The current economic outlook is particularly challenging. Many are worried if there will be enough orders for the companies and jobs for workers in the coming months.”

“No one owes us a living.”

In the context of “no one owes us a living” – we may need to review the following policies:-

… allowing foreigners who come as tourists to look for jobs

… no CPF contributions for foreign workers may make them cheaper than citizens

… consider using some of the billions collected from foreign workers’ levies to help affected citizens

… consider requiring employers to explain and show documentation as to why they were still unable to employ citizens, under the national jobs bank

… the “no limit” in the hiring of employment pass workers in a company
