Commuters who found themselves stranded at MRT stations along the North South line today found themselves faced with long delays, overcrowded bus stops and now surge pricing by taxi app companies.
According to several angry netizens, taxi booking service Uber’s fares surged during the morning’s 2 hour disruption, with some netizens reportedly seeing fares charged at 3.8 times the normal rate.
However, several affected passengers who managed to secure a ride on the third-party booking app said they were grateful for Uber in such situations.
“#mrt down, taxi line long like they just realese the iPhone 6s. Thank God for #Uber,” wrote one netizen, Benjamin Ong.
User @DimanJapar said she had to pay twice the usual fare, while @velouriadreams summed it up best: “1 train breakdown. Uber surge went mad. Taxi Booking apps overwhelmed (I’m guessing). Seriously.”
