EX-SCDF DIRECTOR FACE 10 WEEKS JAIL FOR MISAPPROPRIATING TWO IPADS

Jeganathan Ramasamy, a former Director with the SCDF was sentenced to 10 weeks jail for misappropriating 2 iPads in 2011. He was found guilty of criminal breach of trust after a 10 day trial.

DPP Hon Yi said Jeganathan faced the most serious form of criminal breach of trust because he was a public servant: when he misappropriated the iPads.

Jeganathan assumed the two iPads obtained from SCDF vendors were for personal use, when they had been entrusted to him for testing purposes. He gave one to his daughter and sold the other to another director in the SCDF for $200.

When delivering his sentence, District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said that while he noted Jeganathan’s clean record, he could not ignore the fact that he was a very senior civil servant at the time of the offences.
