A few days ago, you shared a story about an elderly uncle who regularly begs for food in Ang Mo Kio. Various social outlets have tracked him down and visited him at his home.
According to the uncle’s family members, they told volunteers that the uncle holds a full time job but gambles regularly. He has 2 children, a daughter and a son, both gives him a regular allowance. The family is doing well and do not require any form of social assistance. Despite them disapproving of him begging for food, he contrinues to do it.
Such people praying on the kindness of strangers will eventually lead to a cynical society which in turn hurts the real needy people. I am not saying don’t buy him a meal. But buy knowing that he may not be as needy as you are led to believe.
