The Workers’ Party (WP) has added Mr Leon Perera, 45, Mr Mohamed Fairoz Shariff, 36, and Mr Kenneth Foo, 38, into its Central Executive Council (CEC) after the party’s monthly CEC meeting on Tuesday (6th Oct).

Mr Perera and Mr Fairoz had contested in East Coast team during GE2015, while Mr Foo stood in Nee Soon GRC.

“The co-option is meant to strengthen the CEC to meet the expanded scope of leadership work in the Party. The Workers’ Party will continue to develop its capacity to champion parliamentary democracy in the service of Singaporeans. The new appointments will take effect immediately.”

Mr Perera is the chief executive of an international research consultancy and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Mr Fairoz had worked as an Associate Librarian at the National Library and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in South-east Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore.

Mr Foo is a manager with the Singapore Cancer Society and holds an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Adelaide. He has also been appointed Deputy Organising Secretary of the party.

Dr Daniel Goh and Mr Gerald Giam, who also contested in East Coast, were appointed as the Chair and Vice-Chair of the party’s media team respectively, while Mr Fairoz will serve as its webmaster. Party chairman Sylvia Lim and Mr Perera were also inducted as members of the media team.

The WP intends to hold its next council election in August 2016.
